Middle School Environmental Mobile Unit Visit

Middle School Environmental Mobile Unit Visit In-Person

Don't miss this special opportunity! 5th-6th grade middle school students are invited to explore environmental science with the visiting Environmental Mobile Unit (EMU). Science teacher Leigh Kieser will facilitate science exploration in our own backyard including examining soil samples outside the new, temporary library building and water samples inside.

Leigh operates the Environmental Mobile Unit (EMU) at MCIU. She is a Master Gardener and Master Watershed Steward who has worked with several universities, including Purdue, Virginia Tech and Penn State. Along with being Audubon accredited and a certified bee keeper, she has been writing and publishing “The Laid-Back Gardener” online for several years.

Leigh takes the EMU to local schools and events to help students engage with the environment. The self-contained classroom on wheels is a way to ensure that the entire community has access to the most current and up to date environmental concepts and field experiences. She works with the EMU to encourage partnerships with local environmental organizations and groups to blend education with real-world sustainability.
