Steel Drum Performance

Steel Drum Performance In-Person

David Gettes is a scientist, a teacher a steel drum maker, and a performing artist.

In the 1980's he became one of the first individuals to scientifically study the building and tuning of steel drums, under the direction of the 'father of the steel drum',  Ellie Mannette of Trinidad. He apprenticed and studied with Ellie for seven years, learning how to build, tune, and also perform on the steel drums. David is now a leading figure in the steel drum art form as a builder, tuner, and band leader.

David will give us a performance on the steel drums, and afterwards, he will show us one of his inventions!

Bring a friend to this event and travel to the Caribbean right here in the Upper Perkiomen Valley Library. You'll learn about the history of Steel Drums, and get to see and hear them up close!
